The news of Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and pop star Taylor Swift’s engagement has the Internet abuzz.
Hilariously, Kelce’s former college head coach Butch Jones didn’t read the hints before the bombshell went public. Jones, the current Arkansas State head coach who coached Kelce at Cincinnati, recounted a conversation with Kelce last Friday, with the tea initially going over his head.
Once he caught on to Kelce’s plan, Jones was ecstatic for his former player.
“I cannot answer any of the news that just broke about 20 minutes ago with Travis. I will tell you he called me I believe it was last Friday on his way into work. We talked about many things for a long period of time but we did not speak about that,” Jones said. “He made some innuendos but I was so focused on our mock game and the Beanie Bowl, I didn’t put two and two together. But really, really happy for them and well deserved. I’m sure him and I will talk here hopefully in the next day or 2.”
Kelce played at Cincinnati from 2008-12, with his last 2 seasons under Jones after being suspended for the 2010 season. Kelce is a 3-time Super Bowl champion who has been selected to the Pro Bowl 10 times.
