Thankfully, Cam Cameron is coaching at LSU for the 2016 season after being just six months from death because of prostate cancer, according to The Advocate.
The paper did a behind-the-scenes look at Cameron’s cancer battle last fall. It’s certainly worth the read.
Cameron is now cancer free after receiving treatments last year at Johns Hopkins. During LSU’s coaching clinic, Cameron explained just how close to death he really was.
“If I missed another physical, I ain’t standing here right now,” Cameron tells the coaches. “I was six months from death, and I was in great shape.”
Cameron skipped his 2014 physical, and had he missed another one, his cancer wouldn’t have caught in time to treat.
“As we all know, when you have a job and you continue to take your health for granted … my encouragement to everybody is make that your priority,” he told the high school coaches. “This life we live is not a dress rehearsal.”
Despite rumors that Cameron would leave LSU this past February, he’s back as the head honcho leading the Tigers’ offense. Most notably, Cameron is in charge of developing his talented quarterback Brandon Harris in 2016 and helping lead LSU’s offense back to being a potent unit.
