Cameron Williams expected to start at right tackle for Texas vs. Ohio State, per report
Cameron Williams is expected to be available for the Texas Longhorns on Friday when they face Ohio State in the College Football Playoff semifinal game at the Cotton Bowl.
According to a report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel, the 6-foot-5 junior is currently expected to make his return to the field and start at right tackle. Williams missed the Longhorns’ quarterfinal game against Arizona State with a right knee sprain suffered in the first-round win over Clemson.
It’s major news for Texas, as his absence was certainly felt against the Sun Devils.
Redshirt freshman Trevor Goosby started in Williams’ place against the Sun Devils, but the Longhorns finished with just 53 rushing yards. The ineffectiveness can’t all be pinned on Goosby; Texas false-started 4 times and gave up 3 sacks. After weeks of dominant play on the ground, Texas averaged just 1.8 yards per carry.
Williams had started at right tackle in each of the previous 14 games. On the season, he has a 76.5 pass-blocking grade and a 70.9 run-blocking grade from Pro Football Focus. He has been charged with allowing 21 quarterback pressures.
He is widely expected to be an early pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Mel Kiper Jr.’s latest big board for ESPN listed Williams as the seventh-best available tackle in the class.
Texas is also looking to see if wide receiver Isaiah Bond will be closer to 100% against the Buckeyes after he was forced to miss the Clemson game. Bond suffered an ankle injury in the SEC title game against Georgia and was limited to just 22 snaps without a reception in last week’s win over Arizona State. According to the Austin American-Statesman, Bond practiced with the first-team offense this week.
