Carson Beck on turnover struggles: ‘I tried to be Superman’

Carson Beck knows there was 1 spot on his 2024 stat line that stuck out like a sore thumb.

In what turned out to be his final season at Georgia, Beck was wildly erratic with the football. He kept giving it to the other team, throwing 12 interceptions, which was double the amount that he had during his first season as the Bulldogs’ starter in 2023.

Going from 6 interceptions to 12 despite being 1 season wiser in 2024 was not what Beck had planned. His touchdown passes went up from 24 in 2023 to 28 last season, so that was good, but it was those rash of picks that derailed him in 2024 before a UCL injury in his elbow in the SEC Championship Game brought a season end to his season — and his career in Athens.

About a month after suffering the injury, Beck announced he was transferring to Miami. On Tuesday, at ACC Media Days in Charlotte, Beck vowed to keep those turnovers down in 2025 and stop trying to be a superhero.

“Last year, there were just times where I just tried to press too much. I tried to be Superman and save the day. That’s not what we need. I just need to be myself,” Beck told On3.

Beck is hoping that a change of scenery, uniform colors and a switch to a different conference will mean a drop in that dreaded interception column in 2025.
