The No. 17 Alabama Crimson Tide and the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs will meet this weekend in a highly anticipated ranked clash. With both teams coming off a bye, we are likely in store for a classic matchup between these two programs, and CBS Sports analysts Aaron Taylor and Brian Jones have made their picks for this matchup.
Alabama has had a roller coaster of a season in just 3 games so far. In their season opener, Alabama lost to Florida State 31-17, and fans were calling for head coach Kalen DeBoer’s job. Fans wanted to buy him out of his contract; they were saying he wasn’t the one for the job, the team had no heart, and the narratives surrounding this team were not good.
In the two games since, Alabama has outscored its opponents 111-14. The Tide look like a completely different team from Week 1.
Georgia, as usual, has been a model of consistency. The Bulldogs are undefeated on the year, and in their latest game, they went into Knoxville and beat Tennessee in overtime, 44-41. Quarterback Gunnar Stockton proved to many that he can push the ball down the field if he needs to and that this Georgia offense can be explosive.
Aaron Taylor of CBS Sports believes neither team can successfully run the football and that these secondaries will be tested. He also added that he doesn’t have to question Georgia’s heart, and for that reason, he is going with the Bulldogs.
“But the thing with this Alabama team that we question was their heart.” Taylor said. “That ain’t no problem with Georgia, so with all things being equal, I’m taking the home team that proved they will dig deep and do whatever they need to get it done.”
Brian Jones is also going with Georgia, but for a different reason. He believes it’s the explosive players and plays that will get the job done, and Stockton proved against Tennessee that he was capable of keeping up with an explosive offense.
We’ll see how these picks fare on Saturday night. Alabama at Georgia is set for a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff, airing on ABC.
