Charlie Weis Jr. is shooting down rumors linking him to the NFL.
After 4 seasons as the Ole Miss offensive coordinator, Weis agreed to follow Lane Kiffin to LSU and serve as the Tigers’ offensive coordinator. On Sunday, reports emerged that NFL teams, particularly the New York Giants, could be interested in hiring Weis.
Weis made clear on Monday that the reported interest isn’t mutual. He told On3’s Chris Low that he is focused on closing out Ole Miss’s College Football Playoff run before heading to LSU.
“I’m fired up about finishing the job at Ole Miss and the future at LSU,” Weis told Low.
It’s not hard to see why NFL teams would have interest in Weis. The New York Giants are assembling a new staff for 2026, and Weis was the offensive coordinator for Giants QB Jaxson Dart at Ole Miss.
Weis also has NFL ties. Weis’s father, Charlie Weis Sr., was on the Giants staff from 1990-92. Weis Sr. also coached with the New England Patriots (1993-96, 2000-04), New York Jets (1997-99) and Kansas City Chiefs (2010). Weis Jr. followed Steve Sarkisian from Alabama to the Atlanta Falcons in 2017 as an offensive assistant.
Weis Jr. is plenty busy with his current jobs to not have to worry about NFL speculation. No. 6 seed Ole Miss faces No. 10 seed Miami on Thursday in the Fiesta Bowl College Football Playoff semifinal. LSU is also busy with recruiting 2026 transfers and 2027 prospects.
