Chase Daniel says Marcel Reed reminds him of recent Heisman Trophy QB

Marcel Reed is entering the 2026 college football season with plenty of hype. A seasoned veteran with 21 starts under his belt, Reed is expected to have Texas A&M competing for championships in his redshirt junior year.
If things go well for the Aggies as a whole, Reed figures to be in the conversation for some prestigious individual honors. SEC Network analyst Chase Daniel recently shared that he is reminded of Jayden Daniels when he watches Reed. Daniels, a former LSU quarterback, won the Heisman Trophy in 2023, the most recent win by a player from the SEC.
“Marcel’s got all the talent in the world, right? I would say, like, the next step in his progression, watching him on film, is the processing. The processing, you need to be able to go through one, two, three, your reads,” Daniel told TexAgs.
“He reminds me of, like, early stages athleticism and throwing the football, like Jayden Daniels early in his career. But you saw how Jayden Daniels… he became such a really good pocket passer. He didn’t rely on his athletic ability to get out early.”

Reed is one of eight returning FBS QBs nationally to have logged 5,000+ career passing yards and 1,000+ rushing yards entering the 2026 season. In 2025, Reed threw for 3,169 yards and 25 touchdowns, with 12 interceptions. Throwing 137 more passes in 2025 than in 2024, Reed improved his completion percentage (61.3% to 62.1%) and yards per attempt (7.8 to 8.4).
