Alabama fans will never forget where they were during the epic 2017 College Football Playoff National Championship comeback.

The 2-touchdown deficit added a chapter to the Alabama dynasty that will be replayed as much as any.

Alabama strength and conditioning coach Scott Cochran, who isn’t a fan of second-place trophies, had a front-row seat for the late rally. His focus might’ve been a little different than most, but it was all part of the process.

“I was trying to keep coach Saban back, was all I was trying to do at the time,” Cochran said at the Annual L’Arche Football Preview dinner in Mobile via AL.com. “I did a good job there until he realized it was over, and we were celebrating.

“I think it was pretty simple, you know? Just keep doing what we do. Not worry about the score. Not worry about the outside factors. Just keep doing what we do. Coach made a decision, and it was on. Nobody had a thought one way or the other.”

Cochran shared his account at a rare media available session. While his media opportunities are limited, his status as a folk hero of sorts is only growing.

That’s something the high-energy assistant is getting a kick out of it.

“I just stay in my lane as much as possible,” Cochran said via AL.com. “But I think it’s cool, no doubt, if we can use it in recruiting. If it helps us in any way, I’m in, I’m all in. I will sell out for the team all the time, kind of like we want the players to do. I’m trying to do the same thing.”
