If you missed it, Alabama’s head strength coach Scott Cochran got creative this week with his motivational tactics.

The legendary strength coach took his motivation game to another level leading up to the National Championship Game as he brought the 2017 second place trophy into the locker room and smashed it to the players’ delight.

If you missed the video, here it is:

So what did Nick Saban think of the ploy? He was asked that Saturday during his championship media availability.

“I didn’t really have a reaction to it. I’m not big on the gimmick stuff but if it works for the players, I’m all for it,” Saban said. “Coach Cochran likes that kind of stuff and the players usually respond to it and have fun with it, which I think is important.”

The Alabama coach also noted that the gesture was not meant to be disrespectful to anyone.

“I don’t think it was meant to be any disrespect to anyone or anything but more on the reflection of the fact that we didn’t finish the way we should have and maybe we have another opportunity to do that,” he said.

Video of Saban’s comments from Saturday’s media availability was posted by Maria Martin of WSFA 12news.
