Cole Cubelic had something very pressing on his mind during McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning on Tuesday.
For the SEC Network college football analyst, it was all about Cam Coleman, the former Auburn wide receiver who on Sunday announced he had committed to SEC rival Texas. Sure, Coleman was one of the most coveted players in this transfer portal cycle, wide receiver or non-wide receiver, SEC player or non-SEC player.
Despite Auburn’s massive struggles in general and especially on offense in 2025, Coleman still managed to pile up 56 catches for 708 yards and 5 touchdowns this season for the Tigers. But Cubelic doesn’t want to hear it. What he set out to do during his show with Greg McElroy on Tuesday morning is set the record straight on his beliefs on Coleman.
“No player cripples a program when they leave … and if your mindset is of so, that is a loser brain. That is a loser take. That is a loser mindset,” Cubelic said. “To think, ‘oh, he’s leaving, we can’t win.’ You can’t think that way. This obsession with (Coleman and Deuce Knight) that they’ve propped up any portion of the program … what games did Auburn win because of two said players?”
In other words, Cubelic said to Auburn fans not so calmly, don’t be obsessed with Coleman’s departure to Texas — or Deuce Knight’s recent departure to Ole Miss.
“The obsession with attempting to build a team on two individuals who have had limited time proving themselves, and have shown some clown tendencies in doing so, is beyond irresponsible, is beyond ignorant, and is just flat out flawed,” Cubelic said. “But then you go out and you wear pink ski masks to be different from everybody else on the team. That’s the guy that’s going to take the reins and pull the program?
“We’re going to sit around and cry about a guy that’s got less than 100 catches in 2 years? We’re gonna sit around and cry about a guy that’s played in one game? You got to stop.”
Cubelic’s direct message to Auburn fans: don’t cry — look forward to better times and, well, get a grip.
“Give me 20 Germie Bernards before one Cam Coleman. Sorry, I know that hurts people’s feelings. I know I’m probably really mean for saying that,” Cubelic said. “I’ll go use another Auburn example. Give me 1,000 Courtney Taylors before one Cam Coleman. Hell, I’ll take Duke Williams before I’ll take (Coleman). … That dude will stab you in the throat to catch a football. I don’t care. I want him on my team.”
