A college baseball game on Sunday was temporarily halted โ€” and later found to be safe and clear โ€” because of a bomb threat that brought police to the stadium.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported that Louisvilleโ€™s game with North Carolina was postponed and the school also confirmed the incident on Twitter as the Louisville Metro Police Department Bomb Detection Unit responded. UNC led 5-1 in the top of the sixth when police approached the athletic directorโ€™s suite with news of the threat. City and county police were on scene. The incident cleared about 2,000 fans from the stadium, and the game was set to resume at 5:10 p.m. with essential personnel only.

North Carolina and Louisville are among the ACC’s better teams with the Cardinals atop the Atlantic Division heading into Sunday with a record of 22-8 and 8-3 in the league. Louisville is ranked No. 11 in the current Baseball America poll, while the Tar Heels are ranked No. 20.

Ben Metzinger on Saturday launched a walk-off home run to give the Cardinals a 9-8 victory in 10 innings over North Carolina to split the series.
