When it comes to spending money in the high school recruiting world, Texas A&M is no stranger to being at the top of the mountain.

The Aggies famously out-spent the opposition on the recruiting trail during the Jimbo Fisher era, signing the nation’s No. 1-ranked class back in 2022. That group included eight 5-star recruits, per 247Sports Composite rankings, but largely failed to live up to lofty expectations once they arrived in College Station.

Now under Mike Elko, Texas A&M is once again spending big โ€” with the hope that the Aggies will enjoy better results on the field than Fisher’s last No. 1 class.

According to On3’s Pete Nakos, Texas A&M has been the No. 1 spender of the 2027 recruiting cycle.

“Rankings aside, we liked a lot of the guys theyโ€™re taking,” an anonymous SEC general manager told Nakos. “They took some freaking great players. Elkoโ€™s a damn good coach. This isnโ€™t going to be Jimbo Fisher all over again.”

Texas A&M currently has the No. 1-ranked recruiting class in 2027, so it’s not a surprise that the Aggies are also at the top of the payroll charts for this upcoming cycle.

Per 247Sports Composite rankings, Texas A&M already has commitments from six 5-star recruits โ€” and more could be on the way. Of Texas A&M’s 25 commits, 14 are currently ranked in the top 200 nationally.

Time will tell if Texas A&M can capitalize on its spending in the class of 2027. But first, the Aggies are gearing up for a crucial 2026 season where they’re hoping to have a repeat appearance in the College Football Playoff.
