A college football program that’s already tasted a lot of success in 2025 has decided to go a little — or a lot — outside the box with its helmets as it tries to win its last home game of the regular season.

That program is current Sun Belt Conference king James Madison, which is 7-1 this season overall and leads the Sun Belt’s East Division at 5-0. The Dukes are enjoying a bye this week, but in about 3 weeks their fans will really be enjoying what James Madison’s players will be wearing when they host Washington State on Nov. 22.

A different color jersey perhaps? Wrong.

How about the first-ever college football Marvel Super Hero Day, when James Madison will take the field wearing super hero-themed helmets. That’s right, the football heroes of Harrisonburg, Va., will look like super heroes, literally, as they try to earn a victory in what will be this season’s final regular-season home game.

The Marvel theme won’t be totally taking over the Dukes’ helmets that day. One side of their helmets will still have the traditional James Madison logo on it. It’s that other side of the helmet that will be, well, slightly different than usual. The players will get their choice, too, picking among 5 Marvel heroes to be on the other side of their particular helmet. The 5 Marvel heroes to pick from will be Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor and Black Panther.

The James Madison football social media account was excited to announce the promotion, fittingly on Halloween:

Tickets are still available, according to the school, and fans will be encouraged to dress up like their favorite Marvel character.

Washington State will be the guests for this altogether wacky and wonderful event that will make college football history.
