Criticizing the broadcasters: Musburger’s malaprop & more

Itโ€™s one thing to have a team beat you like the way Florida throttled Kentucky last Saturday. Itโ€™s another thing when the broadcasters calling the game start taking shots at your team while itโ€™s getting blown out.

Verne Lundquist and Gary Danielson seemed to make light of Kentuckyโ€™s struggles. Weโ€™re guessing they had nothing else to talk about during the Gatorsโ€™ 45-7 romp.

Nevertheless, Danielson still managed to score points with some viewers:

What’s in a name?

In Auburnโ€™s opener against Clemson, Kyle Davis made a big play with his 43-yard reception. Against Arkansas State last Saturday night, the freshman wide receiver hauled in a 42-yard pass, but someone apparently forgot to tell Brent Musburger.

Weโ€™re not sure how or why this happened, but the longtime announcer kept on calling him Kyle Allen, somehow confusing him for the former Texas A&M quarterback. The Tigers certainly performed better than he did.

Beth I hear you calling

Nick Saban wasnโ€™t happy with his teamโ€™s performance in Alabamaโ€™s 38-10 home win over Western Kentucky last Saturday. By the same token, viewers werenโ€™t pleased with the performance of ESPN play-by-play voice Beth Mowins, who called the game and got hammered by SEC fans.

Most tweets were about Mowinsโ€™ voice. But unfortunately some criticsโ€™ comments were about her gender:

To be fair, despite having her fair share of detractors, Mowins does have some supporters as well:
