Incredible on-field talent aside, there’s a reason why Dak Prescott has had exponential success at every stop in his young playing career: he’s a born leader.
That was once again put on display Wednesday when he told reporters that despite his fast start in the NFL, the Dallas Cowboys will have no quarterback controversy once long-time signal-caller Tony Romo returns from an ailing back injury.
“This is Tony’s team,” Prescott said, per DallasCowboys.com. “I knew that going into the situation. I think everybody knew that. I’m just trying to do the best I can to give my team a chance to win week in and week out.”
Prescott has been about as perfect as a rookie quarterback can be. Through his first five games as a professional athlete, the fourth-round draft pick has completed 69.0 percent of his pass attempts for 1,239 yards and four touchdowns, adding another three scores on the ground. More importantly, he’s led his team to a 4-1 start.
He also owns the NFL rookie record with 155 passes without an interception to start his career.
“As long as we’re winning, I really don’t care,” said Prescott. “Obviously I want to play. That’s the competitor in me. But if we’re winning I’m happy.”
Romo has been the Cowboys’ starter since 2006, when Prescott was 13 years old.
“He’s definitely helped me out throughout the whole time I’ve been here,” Prescott said of Romo. “From the time I got drafted until now. Off the field issues and then on the field he’s a great coach during the game, helping me out as I come to the sideline on things I can do or that he may have seen.”
