The New York Giants are undergoing a coaching change this offseason, and new head coach Pat Shurmur brought in James Bettcher to be his new defensive coordinator.
That means a scheme change, and for DT Dalvin Tomlinson, the new scheme feels quite familiar.
In a recent interview with EliteSportsNY.com, Tomlinson said the Giants’ new 3-4 defense reminds him of his time at Alabama:
โItโs pretty exciting because I remember sitting down with Bettcher during the combine last year and just talking about the defense and everything and I love the scheme,” he said. “It reminds me of the Alabama scheme โฆย itโs just go! You two gap in some cases but mostly itโs all one gap and youโre attacking your gap. I guess you can say you have less responsibility but more at the same time โฆ I donโt know how to explain it. But itโs fun, itโs a fun defense.โ
With Tomlinson and fellow ex-Alabama star Landon Collins helping to lead the defense, the Giants could improve dramatically on that side of the ball this year.
Whatever happens, if Tomlinson is having fun, it should at least be fun to watch.
