One of the biggest surprises of the early season in college football has been UCLA’s dominant performance under first-year head coach Bob Chesney.
Through their first 4 games in 2026, the Bruins have looked like a completely different program from the one that had struggled for much of the past 15 years, roaring out to a 4-0 record and their first top-25 AP Poll ranking in 3 years.
UCLA will now face their biggest challenge of the season so far in #15 Oregon this Saturday. Ducks head coach Dan Lanning told reporters Wednesday afternoon he isn’t taking the Bruins lightly, as they remind him of a certain program from 2025.
Per On3, Lanning said this year’s UCLA squad reminds him a lot of the Indiana Hoosiers squad that beat his team in the regular season and went on to win the national championship.

This is high praise for any program, and Lanning seeing shades of the Hoosiers in Chesney’s squad suggests he expects a massive challenge this weekend.
If the Bruins can find a way to knock off the Ducks on the road in Eugene, then they could end up making some serious noise in both the Big Ten and College Football Playoff races down the stretch.
