If anyone had “college football pundit Danny Kanell defends Miami” on their 2025 bingo card, please show proof.
Yet there was Kanell on Saturday during the CBS Sports HQ breakdown of Friday night’s stunning Hurricanes loss to Louisville. The former Florida State quarterback questioned why everyone was ripping No. 2 Miami for the 24-21 upset home loss to the Cardinals and added that the margin between great teams and good teams is slimmer than ever.
“Louisville can actually play some football,” said Kanell on set. “We do need to give some credit. They’re 5-1, they’re going to be in the Top 25 this week. Jeff Brohm is a great football coach, Isaac Brown went off for 113 yards on the ground right in the shadows of where he grew up, and Miller Moss outplayed Carson Beck.
“I think the lesson that we should learn is that nobody is trustworthy in college football. … This is more about the parity in college football, and maybe some depth showing up in the ACC. Granted, it is a bad loss for Miami. But maybe we should give Louisville some credit.”
Louisville has another chance to prove its bona fides next week at home against Boston College (Oct. 25, 7:30 pm, ACC Network), while Miami plays back at home next week against Stanford (Oct. 25, 7 pm, ESPN).
