Danny Kanell reacts to Thomas Castellanos’ Alabama comments: ‘He kicked the hornet’s nest’
Florida State quarterback Thomas Castellanos made headlines this week with comments he made about Alabama ahead of the Noles’ Week 1 matchup with the Crimson Tide.
“They don’t have Nick Saban to save them. I just don’t see them stopping me,” Castellanos told On3 on Monday.
Those comments, of course, caught the attention of the college football world — including former Florida State quarterback Danny Kanell. During a SiriusXM radio show on Tuesday, Kanell gave his take on Castellanos’ comments.
“Coach [Bobby] Bowden used to always tell us, specifically around Miami and Florida week, he’d be like ‘alright, there’s gonna be a bunch of media attention, let’s make sure we’re only saying nice things about the opponent. Don’t give them anything to fuel their fire. Don’t give them any bulletin-board material.’
“Why give [Alabama] any added motivation? If anything you want a sneak attack. You want them to overlook you and think you’re not good … He just kicked the hornet’s nest and he’s about to find out if he can run away from it or not.”
Here’s a clip from Kanell’s comments:
For what it’s worth, the betting markets aren’t quite as confident in the Noles as Castellanos is. Per BetMGM, Alabama is a 12.5-point road favorite for that Week 1 contest.
