Vanderbilt senior Dayo Odeyingbo releases statement following his decision to leave the program to focus on 2021 NFL Draft
Dayo Odeyingbo’s time at Vanderbilt has officially come to an end.
The senior defensive lineman announced his decision to opt-out for the rest of the season at Vanderbilt in order to focus on the 2021 NFL Draft on Tuesday.
A team captain in Nashville, Odeyingbo has made 122 tackles, 26.5 tackles for loss, eight sacks and an interception in his four seasons playing for the Commodores.
Following this news, Vanderbilt has now suffered just under 20 departures from this season’s team from a combination of opt-outs and transfers. The Commodores are projected to have fewer than 50 scholarship players for the rest of the season, which puts them below the threshold to play in games.
However, the SEC allows teams the option to continue to play with reduced rosters, something Mississippi State, Missouri, South Carolina and Kentucky have all done this season.
On Tuesday, interim head coach Todd Fitch indicated Vanderbilt was prepared to host Tennessee this weekend, even with a depleted depth chart.
Here is the statement Odeyingbo issued confirming his decision to leave Vanderbilt:
