Derrick Henry spent his first 8 NFL seasons with the Tennessee Titans. Now, the former Alabama star is in his first season with the Baltimore Ravens, and he’s re-writing the franchise’s record books.
On Christmas Day, the Ravens are facing the Houston Texans and are looking at keeping a strong season rolling. Henry opened the scoring with a rushing touchdown, and it was a significant one.
Henry’s touchdown was a short 2-yard score with the blocking doing most of the heavy lifting. However, it is his 14th rushing touchdown of the season and his 16th total touchdown.
The 16 offensive touchdowns (rushing + receiving) is a new single-season franchise record for Baltimore. Henry entered the weekend with a 3-way tie between Ray Rice (2011) and Mark Ingram (2019) for the record.
It is also Henry’s 14th rushing touchdown of the season, moving him into a tie with Jamal Lewis (2003) for the most rushing touchdowns in a single Ravens season. Lewis ended that 2003 season with over 2,000 rushing yards and was named the AP’s Offensive Player of the Year.
Surprisingly, it snapped a 4-game TD drought for Henry. He had not scored since a rushing touchdown on Nov. 17 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. While the record is certainly nice, the Ravens have their sights set on an even bigger goal with the NFL playoffs in view.
Derrick Henry is one of the best all-time performers in Alabama history with almost 3,600 rushing yards in his career, including a historic 2015 campaign. Henry set program records with 2,219 rushing yards and 28 rushing touchdowns while capturing the 2015 Heisman Trophy.
