Desmond Howard has his eyes on a specific player as No. 5 LSU and No. 8 Florida State clash in a second consecutive season opener.
Florida State edged LSU 24-23 in last season’s meeting. LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels completed 25 of his 34 passes for 209 yards and 2 touchdowns in the defeat.
This time around, the analyst explained on ESPN’s Get Up that Daniels will have to play superbly for LSU to get some revenge.
“I think he’s going to have to play even better for the LSU bayou bengals to be able to beat Florida State. This guy is a dual-threat quarterback,” Howard said. “Everything coming out of Baton Rouge is that he’s taken a step up as far as leadership, his accuracy. He’s a very mobile quarterback. I think he’s much more confident and comfortable in the offense.”
Howard added that LSU-Florida State has the makings of a high-scoring affair.
“He’s going to be a key factor. Going up against the Seminoles with Jordan Travis, Johnny Wilson. This has the potential to be a shootout,” Howard said. “…Jayden Daniels is going to have to bring his A game. ”
Last season, Daniels passed for 2,913 yards and 17 touchdowns while rushing for 885 yards and 11 scores in his debut campaign at LSU after transferring from Arizona State.
LSU-Florida State is slated for Sept. 3 at 7:30 p.m. EST and will be televised on ABC.
