Wednesday’s SEC hoops action is headlined by a top-10 matchup between Florida and Alabama.
However, there are 2 other intriguing games as well that each have NCAA Tournament implications: Mizzou at Oklahoma and Tennessee at Ole Miss. This will be the penultimate game of the regular season for each of these teams before the SEC finale on Saturday.

Walter Clayton Jr. lower than 2.5 turnovers
Walter Clayton averages 2.6 turnovers per game during SEC play, but he’s been much better in that department lately. In his last 10 games, Clayton is averaging just 2 turnovers per game. Whatever adjustments he’s made during SEC play have clearly paid off because he’s gone lower than 3 turnovers in 4 of his last 6 contests.
Alabama is also a good matchup for this projection. The Crimson Tide are dead last in the SEC in both defensive turnover rate and defensive steal rate. For the season, SEC guards are collectively averaging just 5 turnovers per game against the Crimson Tide. That’s down significantly from the 6.4 turnovers per game that SEC guards average in all league contests overall, per Radar360.
Mark Mitchell lower than 15.5 points
Let’s get this out of the way: Mark Mitchell absolutely torched Oklahoma the last time these teams played. Mitchell scored 25 points and went to the foul line 18 times in an 82-58 drubbing of the Sooners in Columbia. In his postgame press conference, Oklahoma coach Porter Moser spoke about the conflict that Mitchell puts opposing defenses in — either guard him straight up and pay the price or double-team him while leaving Mizzou’s elite 3-point shooters open.
Oklahoma tried the former strategy in the first meeting and got obliterated. I’m making this pick with the thought that Oklahoma will deploy the latter strategy in the rematch. I wouldn’t be shocked to see the Sooners try out a zone at times either. Regardless, I think the Sooners will force someone else to beat them. Mitchell is averaging 14 points per night in SEC play.
Igor Milicic higher than 6.5 rebounds
Tennessee big man Igor Milicic should have free reign of the glass on Wednesday night. Ole Miss is a good team, but the Rebels are sorry on the boards. They’re 16th in the SEC in offensive rebounding rate and 13th in defensive rebounding rate, per KenPom. That should leave the door open for the 6-foot-10 Milicic to get plenty of rebounds.
Milicic has gone higher than this projection in 4 of his last 8 games, but the exceptions often have been when he was in foul trouble and played fewer minutes as a result. In his last 4 games where he played at least 27 minutes, he’s grabbed at least 7 boards every time. Ole Miss does not draw fouls at a particularly-high rate (9th in the SEC) so that’s another reason to like this matchup. Milicic is averaging 6.9 rebounds per game during conference play.
