Although the Tennessee Volunteers were largely unable to contain Diego Pavia on the field Saturday afternoon, the brother of the Vanderbilt quarterback was another story.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol arrested Javier Pavia and charged him with public intoxication at Neyland Stadium, according to a report from Knox News’ Tyler Whetstone:
Diego Pavia was clearly undeterred by his brother’s legal travails, as he passed for 268 yards and rushed for 165 yards against the Volunteers. Pavia was 18-of-28 passing with 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions and also added a rushing score.
Pavia’s 6-yard touchdown pass to Tre Richardson in the second quarter gave him 27 passing TDs for the season – the best single-season mark in Vanderbilt history. Pavia has thrown for 3,192 yards, 27 touchdowns and 18 interceptions in 2025 while rushing for 826 yards and 9 touchdowns.
The victory locked up Vanderbilt’s first-ever 10-win season, as the Commodores finished 10-2 overall and 6-2 in the SEC. Tennessee fell to 8-4 overall and 4-4 in the SEC.
Pavia’s magical 2-year run at Vanderbilt has many urging Heisman Trophy voters wanting to include Pavia on their ballot for a trip to New York for the Dec. 13 ceremony. Pavia finished with 5,217 passing yards, 1,461 rushing yards and 62 total touchdowns (46 passing, 16 rushing).
