DJ Lagway suffered an early injury in Florida’s rivalry showdown with Georgia that forced the freshman quarterback to leave the field on a cart.

Lagway grabbed at his left hamstring after he went down on a 3-yard run in the 2nd quarter. After being attended to on the field, the cart was brought out to take Lagway off the field.

Lagway, a 5-star recruit in the Class of 2024, is Florida’s current QB1 because the Gators lost returning veteran starter Graham Mertz for the rest of the season in the loss to Tennessee.

The Georgia game was Lagway’s third career start. He started Week 2 against Samford when Mertz was in concussion protocol, and again in Week 8 against Kentucky after Mertz’s torn ACL injury.

Lagway has the Gators up 10-3 in the game, which is nearing the half. He threw a 43-yard touchdown pass and led the Gators on another scoring drive after UF’s second interception of Carson Beck.

In Lagway’s absence, Florida is turning to Yale transfer Aidan Warner at quarterback. Warner entered the game having only thrown 3 passes during the 2024 season, receiving playing time in the Samford and Kentucky games.

The game is airing on ABC.
