John Mateer’s hand injury suffered against Auburn in September has been a major storyline for Oklahoma. After breaking a bone in his right hand against the Tigers, the Sooners quarterback went under the knife days later in California, with Dr. Steven Shin performing the surgery.

Mateer ultimately missed just under a month before returning against Texas on Oct. 11. He’s been instrumental in the Sooners’ late-season surge as they’ve vaulted back into the College Football Playoff discussion. That quick recovery time has made Shin, whose practice is thousands of miles away in Los Angeles, something of a hero in Oklahoma, with Sooner fans filling his Google listing with 5-star reviews expressing their gratitude.

The Sooners, looking to make it three straight wins, hosted Mizzou on Saturday in the second-to-last game of the regular season. As you can see below, Shin made an appearance during pregame warmups, waving to fans and even flashing the “Horns Down” sign:

Thanks to a pair of touchdown passes from Mateer and a strong defensive performance, the Sooners look to be in good shape against the Tigers. They hold a late fourth-quarter lead and appear to be en route to a fourth-straight win with LSU still to play in Week 14. If Oklahoma wins that one, it will clinch a spot in the Playoff for the first time since 2019.
