New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, who played at Purdue from 1997-2000, tweeted about the odd circumstances surrounding this crucial SEC game, saying “You’re welcome SEC!”
Tigers quarterback Danny Etling and Gators quarterback Austin Appleby played for the Boilermakers together, even contending with each other for the starting job in 2013 and 2014. Both transferred after that season.
Appleby finished 7-of-17 for 144 yards, 98 of which came on a touchdown strike. Etling went 14-of-25 for 204 yards.
