Missouri running back Ahmad Hardy is clearly 1 of the most impactful players in the nation so far this season. Hardy has racked up 600 yards and 6 touchdowns on the ground for undefeated No. 20 Missouri.
However, the sophomore hasn’t generated much attention for the Heisman Trophy. During a recent press conference, Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz called out the national media for its lack of coverage on Hardy.
“I haven’t really seen much other than Mizzou people. The national people are still all caught up on 10 quarterbacks, so when they start actually looking into who are the best players instead of just the quarterback stats,” Drinkwitz said. “Because right now, national writers, no offense to y’all, they just look at stats. They’re not actually watching enough games to know.”
Yet, Drinkwitz is confident that if Hardy keeps up this pace he’ll earn his way into the Heisman race.
“We’ve got a lot of football left. I don’t think anybody’s won the Heisman in September,” Drinkwitz said. “Once you get into October and November and there’s sustained excellence, we’ll figure out who the best player in college football is. Right now, it’s like the polls. The polls are just for clicks and podcasts.”
