Eli Drinkwitz said Sam Horn will have an MRI on Friday to determine the severity of the lower-body injury he suffered in the first quarter of Thursday night’s win over Central Arkansas.

Horn, a redshirt junior who spent the spring and summer months competing with Beau Pribula for the starting quarterback job, left the Tigers’ 61-6 win over Central Arkansas in the first quarter after appearing to injure his right leg. Horn ran for a 6-yard gain on his first snap of the game, but had his legs cut out from under him on a tackle and had to be helped off the field by Mizzou trainers.

He was immediately taken to the team’s medical tent on the sideline and then helped to the locker room. Horn was seen on crutches with his right leg in a cast in the second half.

Coach Eli Drinkwitz said after the game he did not want to speculate about the severity of the injury.

“I don’t have a doctor’s degree,” Drinkwitz said. “We’ll find out (Friday) when they MRI (it).”

The injury, regardless of severity, is a tough blow for Horn. The Georgia native played in 1 game in 2022 and 3 games in 2023. He missed the entire 2024 football season, as well as the baseball season, after having Tommy John surgery.

Pribula ran the offense entirely without Horn in the lineup. The Penn State transfer completed 23 of his 28 pass attempts for 283 yards and 2 scores while adding 65 yards and 2 more touchdowns on the ground.

Mizzou also saw place-kicker Blake Craig go down with an injury in the opener as well. Craig connected on both of his field goal attempts in the game, first from 49 yards and then from 55 in the second quarter, be he had to be helped to the locker room following a hit on a kickoff in the third quarter.

The Tigers used true freshman Robert Meyer in relief. Meyer didn’t attempt a field goal, but he went 3-for-3 on extra-point attempts.

“Very disappointed and sad with the injury to Sam and the injury to Blake Craig. Those 2 things are really disappointing. We’ll see (Friday) what the extent of those injuries are. It kinda takes a little bit off the win.”
