Eli Drinkwitz got heated on Tuesday when asked about recent reports that Mizzou offensive coordinator Kirby Moore interviewed for the head coaching vacancy at Arkansas.

A report by On3 on Oct. 6 said that Moore interviewed for the position in Fayetteville. Arkansas fired Sam Pittman as its head coach on Sept. 28, the day after a home blowout loss to Notre Dame, and the Razorbacks named Bobby Petrino their interim head coach.

But Mizzou’s head coach wasn’t buying the report that his offensive coordinator interviewed at Arkansas as the Tigers were preparing for last Saturday’s showdown against Alabama. Drinkwitz called the reports “a complete lie.”

Moore is in his 3rd season as Mizzou’s offensive play-caller, and he’s been the leader of a high-octane offense that helped the Tigers get off to a 5-0 start before the Week 7 loss to Alabama. Drinkwitz didn’t stop at just calling the report a lie though. He went further.

“It was really unfortunate that Kirby’s name got associated with something that was a complete lie. He never interviewed, didn’t talk to anybody at Arkansas,” Eli Drinkwitz said. “It’s a bunch of bullcrap put out there to try to create distractions and a narrative that then comes over after the fact, after the game, and it’s really disappointing.”

Moore has been the subject of rumors before. When his brother, Kellen Moore, took over as the head coach of the New Orleans Saints before this season, Kirby Moore was rumored to have a real chance to move on to the NFL to join him.

Drinkwitz and the 16th-ranked Tigers will try to turn their attention to this Saturday’s Week 8 matchup at Auburn (7:45 p.m. ET, SEC Network).
