In the wake of Alabama’s tumble out of the rankings after losing at Florida State in Week 1, the critics are coming out in loud force.
During an episode of ESPN’s Get Up, reporter Heather Dinich responded to a question about head coach Kalen DeBoer’s job security.
Florida State annihilated Alabama in the trenches, which Dinich believes is the greatest cause of alarm for the usually physical Crimson Tide.
“Alabama could be a 5-loss team this year,” Dinich said on ‘Get Up’. “I mean, these issues and I don’t know how Greg [McElroy] feels about this, but they’re real because they got out-physicaled up front. That was the thing that was surprising about it. When you get pushed around on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball up front, I mean that’s indicative of the bigger problem I think.”
Alabama entered the game favored by 2 touchdowns against Florida State but DeBoer dropped his record to 4-4 now in those circumstances. In contrast, his predecessor Nick Saban went an eye-popping 131-2 in the same scenario.
DeBoer’s buyout is a steep $70 million, so Alabama fans will probably have to hope the team turns around under his watch for the immediate future.
DeBoer and Alabama will aim to bounce back on Saturday against visiting UL Monroe (7:45 p.m. ET/SEC Network).
