ESPN simulation has Florida winning the national championship this season
When Florida was picked as the Media’s selection to win the SEC East this season just this week, that prediction resulted in some harsh feedback.
Apparently, that was nothing compared to the latest prediction made by ESPN’s Football Power Index following a recent simulation.
According to ESPN, the FPI predicted Florida to beat Texas in the upcoming national championship game — Texas simply reaching the national championship may be the most unrealistic aspect of his simulation, now that we think about it.
Here is the reaction from ESPN, which surprised even their analytics writer, Seth Walder:
Florida wins the national championship in only 1.2% of our simulations, but none of that matters if the simulation that happens is one of the 1.2%. So congrats, Gators fans, you won it all. And if 2020 plays out a different way for Florida? Well you’ll always have that time when your 1% chance became reality — on the internet.
The simulation also had Alabama and Ohio State in the College Football Playoff and predicted Florida to beat Alabama in the 2020 SEC Championship Game.
Defending national champion LSU had a 9-1 final record in the simulation.
