ESPN FPI rankings after Championship Week: Alabama drops multiple spots in top 25

Well, folks, we’ve made it. It’s officially Selection Sunday in the college football world.

By the end of the day, we’ll know the 12-team College Football Playoff field, as well as the rest of the bowl assignments. But for now, while we wait, we can look at the way the wind is blowing.

Some other rankings systems, like ESPN’s Football Power Index, have been updated after Championship Week. There’s a new No. 1 team in the nation, as Indiana jumped Ohio State to claim the No. 1 spot. The Buckeyes didn’t fall far, checking in at No. 2 this week.

Notre Dame, Oregon and Texas Tech round out the top 5, meaning the SEC was completely shut out. The Georgia Bulldogs, at No. 6, are the SEC’s top dogs (or Dawgs). Alabama fell to No. 8 following its SEC title game loss to Georgia.

Here’s a look at the full ESPN FPI top 25 ahead of Selection Sunday:

That’s 10 SEC teams in the top 25, for those tracking at home. The 6 SEC programs that didn’t make the cut were: Auburn (No. 26), South Carolina (No. 32), Florida (No. 36), Arkansas (No. 41), Kentucky (No. 47) and Mississippi State (No. 50).
