Fans across the sport of college football were treated to an instant classic in Knoxville, as the Georgia Bulldogs overcame a late eight-point deficit to win 44-41 in overtime.
Tennessee had a chance to win the game with seven seconds remaining in regulation, but Volunteers kicker Max Gilbert pushed a 42-yard kick wide right. He did respond in overtime to give the Volunteers the lead, but Josh McCray scored from the one-yard line to give the Bulldogs the win,
The game featured five lead changes in the second half, and it has fans and the media going crazy on social media. Here’s the best of that reaction:
Tennessee got things rolling early, as quarterback Joey Aguilar came out on fire. He threw for 213 yards, and scored three total touchdowns on the team’s first three drives. He finished the game with 371 yards and four passing touchdowns, while adding another score on the ground.
It was Gunner Stockton’s first start on the road in SEC play, and he delivered with 304 yards and two passing touchdowns. He also added another 38 on the ground with another score. The Bulldogs were down 38-30 late in the game, when Stockon led them on a big drive, connecting with London Humphreys for a 28-yard touchdown on a 4th and six.
The Bulldogs get a week to take a breath after this game, but they will be back in action on Sept. 27 when they host the Alabama Crimson Tide.
