FBS Oversight Committee releases statement on Michigan-Western Michigan ending

Michigan has moved past its controversial season-opening victory vs. Western Michigan to return to the AP poll after knocking off Oklahoma. However, the college football world is still frustrated by the situation and now the NCAA has issued a statement.
Western Michigan appeared to have won the game after stopping a Hail Mary attempt as time expired. However after a review, an extra second was placed on the clock giving Michigan one final play, which was a game-winning Hail Mary from Bryce Underwood to JJ Buchanan.
The NCAA oversight committee declared that a result cannot be overturned and went into further detail about clock discrepancies.
“When a replay review requires time to be restored or otherwise adjusted, the replay official’s decision will be based on the embedded game clock contained within the program feed. If the broadcaster is unable to provide an embedded game clock, the replay official will use the game-clock graphic displayed as part of the broadcast feed,” the statement said.
The NCAA oversight committee says there’ll be no further comment on the matter. Michigan entered the season at No. 16, fell out after the narrow win vs. Western Michigan, and now sit at No. 19 coming off the 17-10 upset vs. Oklahoma.
