In Florida‘s game versus USF this past Saturday, UF defensive lineman Brendan Bett drew a 15-yard penalty and was ejected from the game after spitting at offensive lineman Cole Skinner with about two minutes left. On Monday, Bett apologized for his actions on Instagram.

Bett’s penalty was one of the two against Florida on USF’s final drive. It allowed the Bulls to complete an 87-yard drive and set up for a 20-yard game-winning field goal. USF beat the Gators at home 18-16.

Spitting was a common theme in football this past week. Eagles defensive lineman Jalen Carter was ejected from the game on Thursday for spitting on Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.

Bett’s Instagram post reads:

I want to sincerely apologize for my actions in the game this past Saturday. I let down my teammates, coaches, family and all of Gator Nation. Our coaches always instill in us the value of sportsmanship and I crossed the line. I also want to apologize to South Florida. That’s not the person or player I strive to be. I made a terrible mistake and it won’t happen again.”

“To Cole Skinner #56. There is no excuse for my actions. I’m truly sorry to both you and your family.

When Billy Napier was asked in his Monday press conference whether Bett will be available against LSU in the Gators’ next game, he responded that no final decision had been made.

Bett’s availability could be significant as the Gators travel to Death Valley to take on the LSU Tigers. Kickoff is scheduled for Sept. 13 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
