After taking a week off for the bye, Florida coach Jim McElwain returned to his weekly radio show, discussing the LSU game in Week 7 and previewing Saturday’s showdown with Georgia. Defensive coordinator Geoff Collins also stopped by to answer questions.

On the bye for Week 8:
“I think this bye came at a good time. We had a chance to heal some wounds and get some work in. We’ve had some new things to work on.”
“We felt like we needed to work on us. We got back at it on Sunday (preparing to play) against the Bulldogs.”
On this year’s Georgia game and the historic rivalry:
“In talking to a lot of former Gators to get an idea of what its like … the former Gators, these are the games they remember, these Florida-Georgia games. They (the current Gators) have this opportunity to be involved it.”
“Their strengths are their overall team speed No. 1. Defensively, they have a couple of D-linemen like we haven’t really played a whole lot – like No. 92 (Lewis Neal) from LSU. Offensively, the word is they’ve had another week to prepare and they might come at us with a different quarterback…. For us, the unknown is a big thing.”
On Georgia’s special teams:
“They’ve got a couple guys who can run fast – very, very fast. It doesn’t take them long to get to the end zone.”
On UF’s 35-28 loss to LSU in Week 7:
“We had guys really play hard in that ballgame. It was a tough one … when you’re on the road like that. Our guys really played their tails off.”
“In that last ballgame, at times I think we were pressing a little bit. At times we were thinking more about them than what we needed to do. … We were able to really work on that in the off week.”
On WR Antonio Callaway, who injured his foot in practice:
“He was kinda (able to) run around in practice. I’m hoping he’ll be ok.”
Mac: "He's a tough guy. It means a lot to him. He wants to get out there. But obviously it's in the hands of the trainers and team doctors."

On a recent article in The Wall Street Journal about McElwain’s background and how he designs offensive plays:
“There’s probably not anybody that knows me that thought my name would ever be mentioned in The Wall Street Journal.”
On getting freshmen running backs Jordan Scarlett and Jordan Cronkrite involved:
“We need to be able to rotate at that position. We’d like to be able to go with the hot hand in the fourth quarter.”
Mac says that Scarlett was the scout team running back that simulated Fournette.

Defensive coordinator Geoff Collins on being from Georgia:
“I was born and raised in Atlanta, Ga. This game was a national holiday in my household.”
Collins says this is one of the most competitive group of guys (defense) that he has ever been around.
