Florida’s Vernell Brown records back-to-back punt return for TDs in Week 2

Florida wide receiver Vernell Brown has shown throughout his career that he can make big plays when he has the football in his hands. While many of those plays has been as a receiver, he is also an elite playmaker in the return game.
During the Gators’ game against Campbell in Week 2, he showed that off by taking two consecutive punts back for touchdowns.

In the second quarter, he scored on returns of 64 and 70 yards, with it being the first time that Florida has returned consecutive punts for a touchdown since 1996. He has gotten the 2026 season off to a fast start, as he had six catches for 117 yards and one touchdown in the opener.
The Gators are in a new era with Jon Sumrall now as the coach, and so far, things are going well for the Gators. A road trip to Auburn next week will go a long way in seeing exactly how good the Gators are, but having players like Brown is going to make the team formidable.
