Sad news to pass along: Robert Stewart, an All-American lineman for Alabama, has passed away.
Stewart, an Ashford, Alabama native, played for multiple coaches during his UA football career. He was an All-American and All-SEC selection in 1991. Professionally, Stewart found a home in the arena league, playing from 1994-to-2004, earning All-Arena honors 6 times.
An online obituary says Stewart passed on Saturday, June 4 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
“Robert was a powerful positive presence every day on our team,” reads a comment attributed to former Alabama coach Bill Curry. “His smile augmented great physical strength so everyone loved and respected him. Godspeed Robert.”
Roger P Foley also left a note remembering his Crimson Tide teammate.
“Robert was a teammate of mine at Alabama,” Foley wrote. “He was a great guy. He was a hard worker and the strongest guy on the team. He had a huge smile and was respected by all the coaches and players. I’m not sure what happened. He was too young. I’m sorry to hear of his passing. One teammate commented, ‘it’s truly a sad day to hear Robert passed.’ My sincerest condolences to his family. I have fond memories as does the entire team. RIP Robert, you will be remembered.”
Stewart was 55.
