It looks like former Alabama running back Najee Harris is the latest NFL player to sustain a devastating Achilles tendon injury.
The Los Angeles Chargers running back injured his left leg on a non-contact play with 5:02 remaining in the second quarter against the Denver Broncos. Harris was set to take a handoff from quarterback Justin Herbert when he crumpled to the SoFi Stadium turf in obvious pain.
Harris joined the Chargers as a free agent after the Pittsburgh Steelers did not pick up his fifth-year option. He signed with Los Angeles on a 1-year deal worth up to $9.5 million contract and had only gained 33 yards on 9 carries so far in 2025. Harris had gained 28 yards on 6 carries against the Broncos before the injury.
Harris was not immediately ruled out for the remainder of Sunday’s game with what the Chargers called an ankle injury. Harris finished fifth in the 2020 Heisman Trophy voting at Alabama after rushing for 1,466 yards and 26 touchdowns in 13 games for the national champion Crimson Tide.
He was selected with the No. 24 overall pick by the Steelers in the 2021 NFL Draft.
