The Auburn offense has had its issues this season, with the latest struggles on full display in the Tigers’ 30-22 loss to South Carolina on Saturday.
Sophomore quarterback Bo Nix completed 24-of-47 passes for 272 yards and a touchdown but threw three interceptions in the loss.
Former Auburn quarterback Jason Campbell knows what it takes to have success at Auburn, as he led the Tigers to an undefeated SEC Championship season in 2004.
Campbell joined โThe Opening Kickoffโ on WNSP-FM 105.5. in Alabama, this week, giving his thoughts on what Nix needs to do to improve.
โYou donโt have to make every play,โ said Campbell. โUnderstand the game is played in situations. At the end of the game, it can be a chess match. They know if they can face you into taking those chances, then they win.
“In high school, he was a man amongst boys, he could outrun a lot of people, get outside the pocket and thrown on the run.โ
Nix was a star at Pinson Valley in Alabama, before coming to Auburn last season and breaking freshman records.
“Bo needs to channel himself,โ he continued. “This is a time right now thatโs very critical for him to hold himself accountable, take a step back and breathe.
โYou are seeing a lot of new things from Chad Morris and having a full spring. Thatโs where you go through these situational drills. You are seeing the effects of it now. Chadโs still trying to figure out Boโs tendencies. He flushed out of the pocket too early sometimes. Thatโs where he feels most comfortable.โ
Auburn’s offense will have a chance to bounce back at Ole Miss this Saturday, against a defense that has struggled this season.
