Former Auburn QB Payton Thorne went unselected during the 2025 NFL Draft, but quickly found a home with the Cincinnati Bengals as an undrafted free agent.
He spent this preseason trying to make the Bengals’ roster as the second- or third-string quarterback behind superstar Joe Burrow of LSU fame.
However, it appears he didn’t survive cut day around the NFL. Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Thorne was 1 of 11 players released by Cincinnati on Monday afternoon:
Thorne completed 4 of his 7 pass attempts for 41 yards, 0 touchdowns and 0 interceptions in Cincinnati’s 41-14 loss to the Colts to close out their preseason schedule.
There’s a chance the Bengals could add Thorne to their practice squad if he clears waivers, but for now, the former Auburn QB’s NFL future is up in the air.
