A former Auburn wide receiver who signed with Mizzou out of the transfer portal — only to receive a release from the program — appears set to remain in the SEC.
Horatio Fields, who joined Auburn out of the portal in 2024 after playing for Wake Forest, suffered a broken foot that held him out of all but four games in 2025. After entering the transfer portal once more, Fields ultimately signed with Mizzou with a sixth and final year of eligibility.
Weeks later, Mizzou ended up receiving a transfer commitment from former Ole Miss WR Cayden Lee on Saturday. As you might expect, that didn’t sit well with Fields, who subsequently was granted a release, according to On3’s Pete Nakos.
As far as Fields, his next destination could be an interesting one. Nakos has predicted that Fields will transfer to Ole Miss.
After appearing in four games for Wake Forest as a true freshman in 2021, Fields didn’t play in 2022. He returned in 2023 and made just five catches.
The 2024 season is where Fields has seen his most success to date. He made 39 catches for 463 yards and four touchdowns. After his foot injury sidelined him for most of what was ultimately his only season at Auburn, it appears he’ll look to get things back on track in Oxford.
