Drama surrounding the transfer destination of former Florida quarterback DJ Lagway proved to be much ado about nothing.

According to a report from CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz, Lagway is finalizing a deal to sign with Baylor — the same team he gave his commitment to last week. The two sides expect a deal to be done in “the near future,” according to the report.

Lagway committed to Baylor last Thursday. A day later, conflicting reports emerged that Lagway was planning to continue taking visits before “officially committing.” Ole Miss was said to be interested in Lagway.

But the Rebels eventually turned elsewhere, securing transfer pledges from former Auburn quarterback Deuce Knight and former Louisiana quarterback Walker Howard.

Lagway, to his credit, also refuted reports that he wasn’t locked in with Baylor in an interview last week.

“Everything has been hectic,” Lagway told On3. “I don’t know where people are getting stuff at in the beginning, but yes, I am committed to Baylor.”

A former 5-star recruit from Willis (Texas) High, Lagway signed with Florida in the Class of 2024. He started parts of the 2024 season, completing 59.9% of his passes for 1,915 yards and 12 touchdowns with 9 interceptions.

In 2025, Lagway opened the season as the starter. Though he was benched during a 3-interception day against Kentucky, Lagway started all 12 games for the Gators. He completed 62% of his passes for 2,264 yards and 16 touchdowns, but he tossed 14 interceptions.

A return to the Lone Star State gives Lagway a fresh start in familiar surroundings. Willis is roughly a 2-hour drive from Baylor’s campus in Waco.
