Former Ole Miss receiver Elijah Moore signs with AFC contender, per report
Elijah Moore is signing a 1-year deal worth a max of $5 million to join the Buffalo Bills, according to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Moore, a second-round pick of the New York Jets in 2021, has spent the last 2 seasons in Cleveland, where he caught 120 balls for 1,178 yards and 3 touchdowns across 34 appearances. He’ll join a receiver room that also includes former Tennessee wideout Joshua Palmer, former Florida State wideout Keon Coleman, Curtis Samuel, Khalil Shakir, and Laviska Shenault Jr.
Buffalo went 13-4 last season and lost in the AFC Championship game. Shakir led the team in both targets (100) and receptions (76), but he was held under 1,000 yards as the Bills never really found a like-for-like replacement for Stefon Diggs.
The Bills waited until the seventh round of last week’s NFL Draft to select a receiver, which prompted some frustration within the fanbase and led general manager Brandon Beane to go on a bit of a rant on Monday. “How is this group not better than last year’s group?” Beane asked on the radio.
“[Moore’s] a guy we’ve spoken to a few times leading up to the draft, and we just kind of put a pin in it, just like we did several other positions,” Beane told local radio station WGR550. “If we took a guy in the first or second round, he’s probably not too interested. But we didn’t, and so, you know, we picked up those conversations over the weekend.”
A former Ole Miss star, Moore is a 5-foot-10 receiver who can play inside and out. Only Jerry Jeudy had more targets last season within the Browns’ offense.
Moore has 200 career receptions for 2,162 yards and 9 scores since joining the league in 2021.
