Fran Brown is talking up his Week 1 opponent.
Brown and his Syracuse squad were in the spotlight on Wednesday at ACC Media Days. Naturally, one of the topics was the Orange’s Week 1 clash with Tennessee at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The Syracuse head coach had high praise for Josh Heupel and the Vols coming off a College Football Playoff appearance.
“We’re blessed to be able to play in such a prestigious venue, right, against a blue blood of college football. They’ve been doing well for years, right,” Brown said. “I think Coach Heupel is probably in the top-5 best coaches in college football right now. His offense has done an amazing job.”

Brown has plenty of familiarity with UT as a former Georgia assistant. He noted that won’t have any impact on the Aflac Kickoff Game.
“We locked in on the day, so we can be ready when we get to that stage, but we’re just thankful to be able to play in that venue,” Brown said. “We’re extremely happy to get the chance to go and play against Tennessee. They do a real good job, so our team’s excited.”
Syracuse and Tennessee have played just 3 times before. The Vols have won all 3 meetings with the last outing coming in September 2001 in Knoxville, a 33-9 UT victory.
