Garrett Nussmeier has been practicing through patella tendinitis for LSU during fall camp, Brian Kelly revealed on Friday, rating the injury to the Tigers’ starting QB at a “1.5 out of 10” while joking that they “have not amputated (Nussmeier’s) leg.”
That’s good news for Tigers fans who feared that Nussmeier had been dealing with something more serious. But on Saturday, he was back on the practice field with no limitations.
“Nussmeier ran around in the pocket, he rolled left, he rolled right, he threw on the run. He was wearing a black sleeve/brace over his left knee. There certainly didn’t appear to be any major issues there. Threw the ball well as usual,” WAFB-TV’s Jacques Doucet reported on X.
LSU did its part to quell concern among the fanbase, posting this video of Nussmeier connecting on a pass to Barion Brown:
Despite a strong 2024 campaign that saw him throw for 29 touchdowns and over 4,000 yards after taking the reins at quarterback from Jayden Daniels, Nussmeier opted to return to Baton Rouge for a fifth and final season. He is projected as one of the favorites to win the Heisman Trophy and to be among the first quarterbacks off the board in the 2026 NFL Draft.
LSU opens its season at Clemson on Aug. 30.
