Garrett Nussmeier outlines ‘National Championship’ goals for LSU in 2025
LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier isn’t shying away from National Championship expectations in Baton Rouge.
In fact, he’s embracing those expectations. Nussmeier sat down with ESPN’s Marty Smith and Ryan McGee recently to discuss his goals and aspirations in 2025.
“My goals this year are to lead LSU to a National Championship,” Nussmeier said in response to a question about his draft stock. “That’s my goal. Obviously, if we’re able to handle business and take care of things, I think the rest will take care of itself. That’s my main focus. Just being the best that I can be. Not for myself but for my teammates.”
Here’s a clip from Nussmeier’s interview on Marty & McGee:
Nussmeier is arguably the SEC’s top returning quarterback in 2025. He’s expected to contend for the Heisman Trophy and LSU certainly has College Football Playoff aspirations after missing out on a CFP berth last season.
Nussmeier will need to be improved 2025 if LSU is going to accomplish its goals. Last season, he threw for 4,052 yards but also led the SEC with 12 interceptions. He also struggled in losses to Texas A&M, Alabama and Florida — he averaged just 6.5 yards per attempt across those 3 games.
LSU opens the 2025 season on the road at Clemson.
