The Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl may have marked the end of the Arizona Sun Devils and Duke Blue Devils’ respective seasons on Thursday night, but it also marked the end of an era for college football as a whole.

When the final whistle blew and the Blue Devils were crowned Sun Bowl champs, the final whistle also blew on one of the most legendary careers in sports broadcasting, history with longtime CBS analyst Gary Danielson officially set to retire.

Danielson spent the past 36 seasons covering all of the biggest games in college football, the last 20 of which were spent with CBS, including many memorable SEC games, and he signed off the broadcast by giving a heartwarming thank you to all of his coworkers through the years and to the fans who followed him every step of the way.

The crew of College Football Today also paid tribute to Danielson following the Sun Bowl, with Adam Zucker, Brian Jones, Rick Neuheisel, and Aaron Taylor all bidding a heartfelt farewell to the legendary analyst.

Danielson’s retirement marks the end of an era for college football fans everywhere. He was the voice of fall Saturdays for everybody who grew up watching SEC football over the past 20 years, and his presence in the booth will be sorely missed moving forward.
