Gene Chizik rails on Texas A&M Regents member that publicly called for Kevin Sumlin to be fired
Gene Chizik knows a thing or two about being on the hot seat. Only two years after leading Auburn to the 2010 national championship, which came with a win in the 2011 BCS National Championship Game over Oregon, Chizik was fired by the school and replaced with his former offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn.
Now working as an analyst for the SEC Network, Chizik is in a unique position to share insight into the SEC like few others can for the ESPN channel. Following Texas A&M’s opening-season 45-44 loss to UCLA Sunday night, Chizik even worked the postgame coverage for the network.
Apparently, Chizik woke up to the same news most of us did, as A&M Regents member Anthony (Tony) Buzbee called for Sumlin to be fired immediately via, of all things, a Facebook post.
Joining the likes of Kirk Herbstreit and Danny Kanell, Chizik believes that decision was a poor one from a member of authority in College Station. Check out the tweet storm Chizik released Monday morning decrying the display of emotion from Buzbee late last night:
Football is the greatest team sport on the planet. It is an escape for fans to get away from life. However, it is not LIFE. #sumlin 1/5

Nobody knows the expectations at A&M more than Kevin Sumlin. He doesn't need to check Facebook to know they didn't get the job done. 2/5

It's unfortunate that an A&M Board of Regents member would act as irresponsibly as he did airing his grievances publicly… 3/5 #sumlin

The appropriate thing would have been to call Coach Sumlin and have a discussion or handle through the proper channels as a leader. 4/5

I know it's frustrating to other Regents. The knee-jerk reaction of one represents them all. It's unprofessional & unfortunate. #sumlin 5/5
